Jujutsu society is actually pretty structured... But everything has its beginnings. I can imagine thousands of years ago, they didn’t know how to properly use it and stumbled upon their techniques at the brink of death. Not that too much has changed. Even now, many sorcerers unlock hidden potentials when they’re pushed to their last breath. Anyway, I’m not that much of a history buff, but the Heian period was the height of both curses and cursed techniques. By then, the fundamentals and foundation of Jujutsu society were probably already refined.
We do have schools and instructors, so at the very least modern day sorcerers tackle the appropriate difficulty mission for their skill level and are equipped with necessary knowledge. Including how to control and manage cursed energy by leveling your emotions. Education is very important!
[ Thinks about what Greed asked again and snorts. ]
Imagine oldies throwing newbie sorcerers into a fray like it’ll all work out and then they die, turn into curses, and create more trouble. So funny.
[ Laughing about this like he’s talking about how people in history thought the world was flat. ]
Odd, considering what the Heian period usually reflects. [they are thinking of a few things, but then again maybe it isn't as surprising as they think.]
I can only imagine. [it's a bit of a wry tone, as if they're aware that's a possibility and as if they can possibly relate in the most off-tangent way possible. it's why they don't reply again right away, putting some thought into this.]
Is that why you became an instructor in the first place?
Yeah, weird! But it's not like we're normal people in the first place.
[ Jujutsu sorcerers... All messed up in the head to some degree, some more than others. ]
... I guess so. It's something I think my best friend would have done if he didn't get himself tangled up in a corruption story. [ Talks about this like there was even a choice here. It's fine. He's aware people fall. ] Being a teacher is my way of changing how the jujutsu world works! Though it's going to take some time for any changes to really stick and kickstart reform.
What about you? Before becoming an Avatar or becoming an Avatar. Whichever you want to share.
[ Did Greed choose their occupation based on their own goals or is it passion? It's different for everyone. Gojou is goal-oriented in this aspect. ]
True enough. [it's an easy sort of agreement, but they don't linger on that for long. instead, there's a nod. they know Enough about gojou's backstory to understand what isn't being said and they don't ask further questions. they don't have to given they got the answer they were looking for anyway.
a reform...it makes sense.
they almost seem surprised by the sudden redirection of the topic. it isn't that greed isn't used to questions, but they aren't always forthcoming with information about themselves anyhow. you know. as you do.
the answer itself is complicated anyhow if their pause is any indication.]
Before becoming an Avatar? I suppose you could say I had dreams once, but those changed very early in my life. My path was written for me. [there's a moment they look away, examining one of their claws.] For many years, there were things I believed in without question...but now things are different. There's a different goal I'm after.
Written for you... Sounds like you had a lot chaining you down, but I guess the universe gives us a hand of cards and we need to work with it. Carving your own path isn't so easy for some people.
[ Some people have it all—like him. Gojou sets all the chairs and tables properly after he's done picking up the bigger messes on the floor. The rest will have to be vacuumed later since they're talking.
He doesn't have any doubt that Greed will accomplish what they set out to accomplish, instead: ]
I hope it's worth everything you endure, but it has to, right? Who else better knows that than ourselves.
[ Speaking about desire. ]
In a way, I'm glad I came here, even though I didn't need to.
...something like that, I guess. [the universe, quite frankly, can fuck right off. greed does not say that though and there's a stiff sort of nod to follow that. they continue to watch him go and pick everything else up, still not bothering to help but mostly following him with their eyes curiously.
they don't quite agree with that either, so there's another nod and they focus instead on that last sentence. gojou can think what he wants and greed is perfectly alright with that.]
If it was unnecessary, then why did you? A better chance than doing everything on your own?
[ Gojou Satoru: 100% faith in himself at the very least. ]
... I was stuck in a box with nothing to do. [ THAT'S IT, I'M SORRY. ] If I could learn something from here even if the desire thing is a sham, then that's enough for me, but if it's real? Who am I to say no to power?
[ power tasty. power delicious. ]
Didn't expect it to be like this and for stitches to be here.
[HORRIBLY, THIS IS ACTUALLY A VERY RESPECTABLE ANSWER? greed is a workaholic, of course they're going to approve of anything that even sounds like "i wanted to make a better use of my time."
so. yeah. a nod.]
The Mahito was a surprise. [deadpan.] But it's as we've said. Everything must be earned.
Do you feel as though you've learned anything at all so far...?
He usually bothers to speak with me once a week or so, just like the others. [but they think on this...]
He's bored when we discuss a few subjects, but he seems most interested when I give him something to do, or when he's trying to figure out what exactly I am.
That's generally how conversations work, yes. [that is to say they expected this. there's a pause.] Considering I've already had my some of my private affairs aired out without my permission I would rather answer things myself.
[ Snickers... The unshattered tea sets are put away. ]
I actually didn't expect Gluttony to be a kiss and tell kind of person?
[ But he isn't going to pry into that. He doesn't care about sex lives. ]
How do I put this! I'm not the most personable guy? I don't think the same way as usual people, so I find it difficult to handle them outside of business. It's been easier now that I get to spend more quality time, so I have several references... There are a lot of nice people on the station. They don't just write me off as someone who can always take care of himself, too. Having no powers makes it easier, though I think it has also changed my mindset. I don't think myself as someone separate from the rest all the time.
[ Hmmm. ]
I wouldn't say that I've become the kindest and most compassionate person here, but it's something. I might be able to support my students better than I did before.
Yes, well. [they seem to wave that off a bit. gluttony is gluttony and while greed is going to be fussed about it for a while they don't feel like lingering on it. instead, they listen to gojou's explanation.
hmm, indeed.]
Without your typical job and your original set of abilities, you find yourself having more in common with the collective as a whole due to having additional time to learn about them. Less of an outlier due to being on a more even playing field.
[huh.]
I'll admit that wasn't what I was expecting. [but it's not bad either.]
If this place is supposed to cultivate my desire to kill for what I want, it's not like I don't have that already.
[ maybe??? he guesses that's impactful. People, by default, don't want to kill and learning that sometimes they have to is one of the biggest hurdles. ]

Becoming an Avatar simply just happened.

Why?
no subject
... He's been visiting me more lately and that's concerning. It means I'm the most interesting thing to him for a while now.
And that won't last.
no subject
...I see. [they pause again, index finger tapping on their elbow in thought.] So what would be the solution? Or, I suppose, what are your thoughts?
no subject
Don't worry about it. I'll figure something out before he tries to create his own version of fun.
[ He thinks that's enough for Greed to figure it out. Moving back on topic. ]
Being without my cursed techniques has been interesting and annoying, but I think I learned a lot here!
no subject
Alright. [but hm...]
What do you think you've learned? [this is now just greed being nosy.]
no subject
Curious about lil' ol' me again?
[ him! cleaning up the tea room! in a playboy bunny suit! cursed!! with ass!!! ]
no subject
Yes. I believe I am.
