I'm good at plenty of things. The profile's not a bad place to start though. Maybe I'll even answer a few questions in exchange for the tea.

[thanks! they will take it and yuri can probably get a glimpse of lust's fingernails which have been painted with a cute pink polish. they're also wearing fingerless gloves.]

I can take a hint. [they laugh though and as the kettle starts to whistle lust moves to get some loose-leaf tea in a strainer to make them a few cups.] Some of the things on your profile don't match up with the rest. Those are the ones I'm most curious about.

[ he's watching how they make the tea, almost subconsciously. this is sort of familar, like having tea with byleth. only on a ?spaceship, maybe. ] Everyone has multiple talents, myself included.

[they will? let them paint yuri's nails for him actually. the tea is being made and it seems like lust knows what they're doing, letting it seep as the toast pops up. they'll move on to butter said-toast and pull out a little jar of jam and another of honey. they're doing a whole spread here.]

Well yeah, but you've gotta admit there's a pretty big difference between knowing how to put on eyeliner and military training.

A guy can look good while learning how to survive a war. I know plenty of women who know how to apply make up and blast a man with magic from a few feet away.

I've never been in a war, so I'll just have to take your word for it. [granted, yuri does look very nice so there's that.] Is magic a common thing where you're from? Do you know how to use it, too?

[aubins]

They're highly overrated, and just dangerous for everyone involved. Try and keep it that way, alright? [ he looks lovely, thank you for noticing. ]

Yeah, for the most part. You have to train in it. Some people have a talent for it, others don't. Same as anything else really.

[probe]

I'll do my best. [teasing. but they slide both a cup of tea and also a plate of toast to him.]

So if you're not born with a magical ability or anything, you could still learn? But it'd just be a little harder.

[aubins]

You wouldn't find regular folks using magic. It's a weapon.

[ thank u for tea and toast, he will accept it gratefully ] I only started using it at the academy, that's where you can really get your hands on the books you need to cast it. It's not some sort of special chosen one skill, or anything.

If you're willing to fight, you can use it. You'll just never progress past your starting abilities without the means to keep training.

[there's a nod of understanding as they munch their toast.]

Guess you're right. No different than any other skill. [yuri's pleasant company at least, so they don't mind giving him treats and steering the conversation.]

Can I ask you something? What made you choose to attend that academy?

[aubins]

[ treats and chat are two things he does enjoy. lust is doing well. ]

Necessity.



... Mostly. Not a very exciting answer, is it?

I think I prefer honesty over exciting. [so they seem to accept that answer.] Was your choice to come here like necessity, too?

[aubins]

Absolutely. And selfishness, in my own way. But I'd consider it equally necessary.

[ ... ] I take it some people are here for reasons that aren't exactly "necessary"?

[probe]

It depends on what you would consider necessary. You'd have to ask everybody else. [humming.] I don't judge why people took the chance, that's all up to them. But I like hearing about it from them personally than just knowing what we already know about you guys.

[aubins]

Necessity is in the eye of the beholder. Or something along those lines.

[ he picks up his cup and blows on the surface of the tea to cool it down a little. ] Although I don't know how many people would be willing to talk about what they want.

[probe]

Would you? If a stranger asked, how much would you tell them?

[aubins]

Nothing, probably. Or very little. My reasons are my own, and I don't really care whether people judge me for them or not.

[probe]

...what are you reasons anyway, Yuri? Really. I wanna hear it from you if that's okay.

[aubins]

[ he shrugs. ]

I have a lot of people I want to keep safe. There's very little I won't do to make sure that happens.

[probe]

I'm not really sure I'd call that selfish. Don't most people have other people they want to protect no matter what?

[aubins]

Depends. There’s saying that, and then there’s actually doing that. Everyone else be damned, you know?

[probe]

I understand. [and they take another sip.] ...it's kind of romantic if you think about it though. The sacrifices made for the ones you love most, even when it's less than good things.

[aubins]

[ siiiiiip. tea is always good for conversation. ]

Maybe less romantic than you're thinking. But it's something I'm committed to, so I'll see it through.
