[envy is hanging out in the rec room, as promised! they're curled up on the couch, busily knitting. it's not clear what they're making, but it's small and made of black yarn.]

Hey, um-- just make yourself comfortable!

[Oh. Knitting. A scarf for baby! Just kidding, it's too soon for that. She nods in recognition, and goes to sit as well.]

. . . Hello. It felt odd, to have never spoken with you.

[(that gatsby comic voice) what BABY.]

It's okay! There's a lot of us, you know? And a lot of you guys, so it's not like we expect all of you to come talk to all of us.

Well, yes, but it feels a little unnatural, to know so little about you. And I've found some of you to be a surprise.

[probe]

How so?

[they observe her curiously, both with their face eyes and one on their hand.]

Just not what you expected out of someone with our sins?

Something like that. I didn't expect I would get along with the Avatars of sins that I find particularly distasteful. Greed, Lust. . . Envy, to some degree.

[probe]

Oh, yeah, Greed isn't bad and Lust is absolutely a sweetheart. I would definitely mess with you if you said anything mean about Lust.

[but she hasn't, so she's safe. it's fine.]

But I'm, uh, glad I'm not that distasteful? Honestly, kind of not used to everyone being this chill about everything...

Did you see how Wrath made that one guy unable to say anything? I can do stuff too, you know.

[they waggle their fingers!]

[She looks so. So not intimidated.]

Well, it is true - you have powers and I have none. I suppose you could use them against me, and there's little I could do to retaliate. Then again, I have always been creative.

[probe]

I could just make you feel like you're not. Like you're not anything at all, actually.

[envy just says this casually, unbothered that she's not intimidated. he might genuinely think this is casual conversation.]

But I'm not going to, so!

[bonetiddies]

[Haha! This was just a casual conversation to her, too, but what he just said really wigs her out? So, good job?]

Do not. Don't do anything to my head. You will come to regret it, and that's a promise.

I'd only do it if someone really pissed me off-! It's fine, it's fine, I promise, don't be mad--

[he holds up both hands, there.]

[Well, him being defensive the second she gets mad helps a lot in terms of how actually freaked out she is, but she's still sort of scowling.]

Oh- I, uh, I guess so. I'm not very good at that kind of thing.

[he reaches up to rub the back of his neck.]

Which is probably a good thing, overall?

Yes, it is probably a good thing.

I'm fine with it. I don't think I really want to be intimidating, it's already hard enough to talk to people.

[bonetiddies]

You said you aren't used to everyone being "chill" about everything.

[probe]

I mean-- I'm used to being mostly by myself. Myself plus several dead people, anyway, and people who aren't dead usually think I'm out of my mind, so.

[bonetiddies]

Oh.

[. . . She smiles a little at that, actually.]

I'm way more used to dead people than alive ones, but that always sort of weirds people out?

[bonetiddies]

The only other youth, growing up in Drearburh, was a man seventeen years my senior. I was surrounded by our elderly and the crypts. Though I can't say I spoke much with the dead by choice.
