Yeah, okay. [she rolls her eyes.] Boys make everything so difficult.

Then we're at an impasse! All of my stuff isn't that great either.

[you know, what with childe being a murderer. but she licks more ice cream off of her spoon.]

But maybe that's not so bad.

Yup. We're still alive to experience all of these stupid, tiring things. That has to count for something.

[... it's a weird feeling for white, because outwardly, he agrees. the part of him that always strove for survival even if just for survival's sake says yes, absolutely. being alive is the most important thing, no matter what the circumstances are.

but subconsciously, there's a part of him—however much he doesn't like to acknowledge its voice—that thinks it would've been kinder for him to die young, rather than live what his life became.]

Well, can't deny that. It's better than what a lot of people get.

Yeah. And being alive means there's still a chance to get what you want. That hasn't changed at all, has it?

[enfangs]

Depends... the longer we're here, the more I feel like we're gonna use up our indulgence points or whatever just to make it to the end, honestly.

If it helps, it doesn't work that way. The points you've earned already are in a bank, kinda. So they won't be used up until the time's right.

[enfangs]

And when's that time gonna be...?

There's only a few of you left now...it has to be soon. I can't imagine it'll be much longer now.

[enfangs]

... I really hope that's not implying we're all gonna die.

[probe]

Ugh, don't say that! We're not going to let everybody die if we can help it.

[enfangs]

... All right, we're counting on you for that. [...] So you mean that there won't be much of an indulgence race anymore with only a few of us left?

[probe]

Yup. Pretty much. Without more of you to indulge and add to the total, it'll be harder to fill. Plus with less of you it won't have to be split so many ways.

[enfangs]

... Right. [...] There's a quota we gotta fill, then?

[probe]

Think of it like this. You have something you want, which is to stay alive. But then someone else's wish is like...I dunno, they want to take back something they said to someone else. One of those things requires more power than the other. So the quota is always changing the less of you there are, because there are less desires to grant.

Does that make sense?

[enfangs]

... Kind of wish it wasn't changing, since it sounds like that makes it more complicated, but yeah, I get it.

There's a lot of things I wish and that's at the top of it. How can you be successful if the goal post keeps moving? It's not fair to anybody.
