Aaah, I think it's different where you're from.

[...]

No, I know it is. Where you from - gods have always been gods, right?

...we start out mortal. Every single one of us.

[even the heavenly emperor, probably.]

We become gods after ascending to the heavens. [her hands are shaking. she tries to disguise it by petting a dog.] But when we do, we leave the cycle of reincarnation. And we don't live forever - just for as long as people believe in us, or as long as we don't fail a Heavenly Calamity.

There's always someone else who can ascend and take our place.

[because his text was deeply concerning she thought he was in trouble and just ran!!]

He said that to you? [her brow furrows at that. nooo, he's not replaceable...] That doesn't seem right. You're one-of-a-kind.

[...she looks down at the dog she's petting.]

Not that, exactly, but... [she bites her lip.] ...what would you do if you found out something you believed about yourself was a lie?

[nooo he's too cute. what the fuck. that reaction actually gets her to smile faintly, and she reaches over to pat him on the shoulder. the dog she stopped petting to do that gives a little bark.]

It's good that you've always been yourself. Never lose that, okay?

[anyway - ]

...no, it's... [she sighs] I found out, from a memory I saw. I wasn't ever supposed to be a god.

[what the fuck that's so cute. feathers everywhere. please praise him forever.]

It's not even that I proved myself. My brother, he... [...] He switched our fates. The man whose fate I stole was tormented and he and his family died miserably, just so I could...

[she shakes her head.]

I don't know what to do, now.

[pet the disgruntled pup...]

I'm going to - I just don't know if an apology will be enough, you know?

[there's no changing what happened, after all.]

...especially not coming from the person who benefitted from it the most. I don't know. [she sighs] I need to figure it out, before we go back.

[(laughs in 500 year revengequest)

anyway, she looks down.]

...I can't just keep reaping the benefits of his suffering. [...] The things we had in mind when we agreed to come here... it's okay if what we want changes, right?

[personal profile] shiftingwinds 2021-03-03 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I...

[she's - actually, hold on. if you can think it up, it can happen...]

...would it be possible to change the past?
shiftingwinds: (118)

[personal profile] shiftingwinds 2021-03-03 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It would. [...] But it wouldn't be doing anything more than... setting things right. If something did happen to me, it would just be what was originally fated to happen.

[she smiles faintly]

...thanks. I guess - we'll see how all of this plays out.

The problem is that my brother changed what was originally fated to be. It might... be a little different where you're from.

[she looks down at her hands]

...I might still survive it! I just... don't want to survive at the cost of someone else's suffering. That isn't right.
