I figured as much, you don't seem creepy.

[He's going to peek at any of those green eyes he can see now. Are they actual eyes, or are they tattoos like the one Luca has on his hand?]

I could introduce you to a world of science, perhaps.

[HEART EYES MOTHERFUCKER

This just makes Luca want to experiment more and see what makes them get heart-shaped pupils. Luca has a guess but he still needs to test his hypothesis.

It sounds like you might like the branch of science I study, then. Others have compared it to magic, even if it is decidedly a field of scientific study in my world.

[Hol' up]

"the thing where we know stuff about you guys".

[Luca does not remember this part. If they were told it before and I'm being a dumbass then we're going to say he has sex brain and forgot.]

[He just. Sighs and rubs at his face.]

Thank you for not being too nosy, I suppose. I'm sure the basics of my life aren't too horrible.

That's fair. Though I'm surprised, I expected more judgement for the 'marriage' thing.

[A fact he hasn't directly told anyone yet. Any sex he has is adultery so technically it's all indulging in his vice right???]

[Envy is valid, the adultery is Luca's sin.]

Well, thank you for that. I do appreciate that you're trying not to violate my privacy.

[He sounds vaguely annoyed as he talks, but Envy does get an answer.]

It was a marriage of convenience to give her an heir to her family's business while I myself lack the social clout to stage a takeover. And it wouldn't have worked anyway because I prefer men.

Well no, of course not. Marriage is about producing children and strengthening family politics. Why would two men ever get married?

[He. Has some rather archaic views on marriage. I'm sorry he's like this.]

Admittedly I should try to be a good husband to Carmen, but the argument over if fidelity was vital to being a good husband has always been between us. It's not like I leave her or our son destitute.

[He sighs.]

Technically divorce exists, but I can't do that to her. It would ruin her reputation, and reputation is everything where we're from. It's better for her to have a 'chronically absent' husband who lives in another country and quietly fools around than it is to be divorced.

...you know, I don't know. I can't think of any meaningful way to change that without ruining at least one person's life. And if I have to destroy Carmen or Giovanni's lives to do it, then I don't want it.

[He may not get along with his wife but he still feels responsible for her.]

Mmm. We'll see.

[He does have some ideas, but they're just that: ideas.

"Disappearing mysteriously and being presumed dead" might be the nicest thing he could do for both of them though, of the things he could do that don't involve his own death.
