Technically divorce exists, but I can't do that to her. It would ruin her reputation, and reputation is everything where we're from. It's better for her to have a 'chronically absent' husband who lives in another country and quietly fools around than it is to be divorced.
...you know, I don't know. I can't think of any meaningful way to change that without ruining at least one person's life. And if I have to destroy Carmen or Giovanni's lives to do it, then I don't want it.

Well- you might be able to come up with something, so I wouldn't rule it out. There's a lot of potential things to be gained, in a place like this. Maybe the chance to have a different kind of relationship is one of them.
