Good! A car is kind of like a carriage, but it moves without horses. It has an engine, and you're the one actually controlling where it's going unless you have a self-driving car or something.

And those replaced horses, these uh.... self-driving car things? Or not self-driving car things.

Between those and trains, yeah! People still ride horses but usually out where there's a lot of space, or at a stable. They're pretty expensive to own, too.

That makes them sound like more of a pet thing.

They are pets! Unless you live on a farm or somewhere rural or something.

Hm...when you can reach a few other places, I'll tell you then. Okay? It'd be more fun to show you.

There's somewhere here that can do that? ... Not Amaurot the simulation room?

Kinda! I don't like using the simulation room to bring it up because it's not really the same. And it's just sort of sad.

... Because it's too absorbing, or...?

Yeah. And because I miss it sometimes, so it's dumb to make it happen when I can't eat my favorite things or really be in all my favorite places.

...have you spent time in there already?

A little. It can replicate the training grounds at Garreg Mach, which is... a little better than using foam swords in the gym.

And sometimes, the Abyss, but can't really train there the same.

It's probably way easier to train somewhere familiar anyway.

...so what is the Abyss anyway? Like really.

[aubins]

It's worked for me so far. Even if it is just in short bursts.

It's a place where people who have slipped through the cracks, or been shunned by society can go and live safely.

...but then what are you doing there?

[aubins]

Because I didn't have a lot of choice. And now I'm stuck with the lot of them.

[ there is.... zero resentment in his voice. ]

You sound pretty okay with being stuck. [just pointing that out!] It's hard to imagine you being somebody people would shun though. You know that, right?

[aubins]

It's my choice to stay there. They're my people.

[ he shrugs. ] I'm not exactly a paragon of virtue and kindness, Lust. A fair bit of what I get is probably deserved, somewhere down the line.

That's pretty honorable of you. [they shrug back.] And I know that. I know a little bit about the kind of stuff you've done where you're from, but...you've been pretty kind here, haven't you?

[aubins]

Well, good to know our secrets sure are just out there. [ he sighs ] I’m not exactly gunning to be an asshole twenty-four seven. Not if I don’t have a need to.

We have to know a little about you guys so we know what we're working with, you know. Don't feel bad.
