But if we are discovered, I suspect people will choose us for death all the same, if only because no one will trust everyone to withhold their votes. Or maybe simply out of spite for what we've done. Someone will think: "it would be better to kill a murderer than to risk anyone else."

Avoiding the vote is possible, certainly. But it is, in my opinion, something of an empty gesture at such a late point.
Should it come to your latter concerns in the end, I would suggest prioritizing your own life.
