[ She thinks over all that for a moment. When people are taken away, they can't be seen, Avatar to Avatar, or Avatar to participant. That's dangerous and foreboding. ]
That sounds like the beginning of a lot.
[ Of a traumatic ordeal, but it's kind of rude to just call it that? So she isn't because it's still kindness week this thread. ]
It sounds like whatever that place was preyed on your memories and on your aspect. Was that someone important to you?
[smashcut to miles being Very Unpleased when medb disappears in the next few days. also thank you for not calling it traumatic because he might not be able to cope with that. instead, there's another pause.]
Likely. That's how it usually starts out. Being taken to an unfamiliar place and being challenged by your own memories. Though I would argue that the aspect was actually Envy's, if anything. That sort of bitterness of not accomplishing things isn't mine.
[...there's a nod though.] An ally. [and then, he reconsiders, thinking of what he had said once before.] ...an indispensable and dear friend.
[because the history with phoenix wright is still complicated for miles edgeworth so it's easy enough to brush past it.]
For every door I went through and every time I started in the hall again, the details of the house changed as well. Photos began to soak up spots of dirt and blood. The telephone wouldn't stop ringing, though every time I answered it I never received anything useful. The radio's static became so unbearable I could hardly stand it. And all the while, I followed this man not knowing what other puzzle to solve.
Picking up the gun on the table was only instinct, despite how much I resisted upon entering the house in the first place. But that seemed to be a key component in the puzzle. Wright disappeared entirely, and the phone rang once more.
This time, however, the voice on the other end of the line was familiar to me.
[ Sometimes, things just happen? She didn't ask to disappear, but thanks for caring, Greed.
Hmm... she nods. Envy makes sense for the aspect. Really glad Miles got to be gay about Phoenix in all that trauma, too.
She wrinkles her nose the more he describes. She doesn't like the sound of any of that? Terrible. ]
That sounds like a terrible horror movie in the making. Sorry you had to go through that and solve a puzzle at the same time. What did the voice you know say?
it happens. sometimes you just get consistently attacked with the knowledge that you and your childhood friend have had a turbulent relationship and now that person will be left behind thanks to false evidence destroying their reputation. sometimes that is just a thing.]
As Wrath called it, it was "horror movie bullshit", yes. [not a fan! actually terrible! but he eyeballs the sky briefly before he continues.]
"Miles Edgeworth, I'll see you in hell."
It was almost poetic the way the lights went out and the line went dead after that.
[ how much of his eyeballs does he have to eyeball the ceiling with? just wondering (I'M KIDDING YOU DON'T HAVE TO ANSWER THIS)
Miles, have you considered talking about this with someone? Medb is not great for that, as sweet as she can be when she wants to be, but someone? Anyone? Talk about your unresolved feelings with someone! ]
Yeah, horror movie bullshit is right. That's so cliché.
[STOP it's saturday his eyeballs are there they're just weak by this point.
also haha! no! why would miles ever talk about this with anyone. honestly medb was actually smart to ask him today instead of another day since he's already feeling like garbage. it means he's more prone to explaining.]
Incredibly. [and yet.] I wasn't sure what to think. It wasn't...
[...well no, here he pauses because he's very well aware this next piece sounds foolish and he's expecting medb to judge the hell out of him. he would also judge the hell out of him in this weak moment?]
Illusion or not, considering it's likely that man really is in hell by now it was worth the consideration. At the time I suppose I rationalized it as my mentor coming back from the grave to try and finish what he had started.
Without a light source, it was increasingly difficult to see. I could hear footsteps ahead, and somehow I had convinced myself it was Wright. So I followed. By then, I began to wonder if I should simply abandon the other three and pursue my desires. I could feel myself thinking it wasn't fair that they had a chance, and likely an easier one, at obtaining their greatest desire.
Nothing mattered to me but finding my own way out of that damn house and getting what I came for...whatever that may be. Every now and then there was a flash of light allowing me to see the damage the house had taken. Broken glass, blood splatters, bullet holes through photographs on the wall. But there wasn't enough light. I could hear footsteps behind me and I could feel something winding its way around me.
There wasn't much of a warning before my right eye was removed, followed by my left. I could hear the sound of consumption right before I passed out. So naturally, when I awoke on the concrete sometime later my only thought was that I had to find the exit before von Karma found me.
[he's saying names that don't even mean anything to her, but it's easier to compartmentalize his experience if he lists things out.]
Without my eyesight and with the darkness of the house, navigating was even worse than before. I believe I slipped on my own blood a few times, and running into the corners of the hall was the only way I could feel around at first. I had the gun still, but it didn't matter. Sounds were thrown off, and even hearing him goading me to follow through in the house I didn't act fast enough. I had failed to obtain my goals.
A gun to the back, two bullets through the chest. That was the last thing I remembered before we were thrown out near Simulations.
[ There are a lot of things she could say in response to this. There is a lot to judge, but even Medb isn't infallible. How much Medb likes someone doesn't always correlate to how much Medb cares for someone. How she perceives weakness is mostly straightforward, and as heartless as she can be, she is someone driven by her emotions more often than not.
She isn't unmovable, and that's very heavy for anyone to experience. She's come to like Greed enough that she does care.
There's much she can say even if she doesn't know every name he's listed, but instead of saying too much, she shifts closer to him and reaches over to hold his hand.
She'd hug him, but he's laying down? That's awkward. ]
Anyone would be foolish in that situation, but I don't think that makes you stupid.
[oh. handholding. he allows it if only because it seems like a more appropriate response than immediately pulling away after explaining all of that, so even if it's loose it's acceptable.
also a hug would somehow maybe be worse at the moment. once again medb is making wise choices.]
Perhaps not...even knowing it wasn't real, we had to see it through to fully understand how these circumstances occur. I have reason to believe the entire point was to kill us, but it was drawn out just to toy with us. [as if to prove they also aren't infallible.]
I haven't spoken to the others at length about what they witnessed, but even what I've heard so far...it was exactly the things necessary to attempt to disorient us.
[please consider who edgeworth usually surrounds himself with.]
That's the conclusion I came to as well. As for who or what...we're looking into that as well. I've been informed some of you have found case files about some of us that we weren't aware of.
They do say that is the very definition of insanity. [hum.
but. ah. there's a pause and he turns his head to glance at her as best as he can. hilariously his first instinct is to say no. that person isn't the same now. even some of the people who have seen his face don't know his real name.
but of course some things have changed. also, he died, so he's a little more free-giving with information. somewhere in his existential crisis though he thinks that maybe it wouldn't be horrendous to hear his own name again.]
...Edgeworth will suffice. [it's what he's used to.]

She frowns. ]
Okay, but who or what is trying to toy with you? Kill you? Disorient you?
[ All of them? If they're all randomly being taken like that and messed with? Why are they being put through it? ]
That means they're trying to keep you from finding anything out.
no subject
That's the conclusion I came to as well. As for who or what...we're looking into that as well. I've been informed some of you have found case files about some of us that we weren't aware of.

GET USED TO AFFECTION, EDGEWORTH. ]
It's foreboding, isn't it?
[ Medb can be bright and positive, but she isn't necessarily optimistic. ]
no subject
Incredibly. My least favorite thing to do is wait, but it feels as though we've now been told we must do the same. [there's a pause.]
My apologies for failing as well. It wasn't my intention.
no subject
[ She flicks him on.... his arm. She feels like that's a sort of safe place to flick him. ]
This just means you'll have to be understanding if I suddenly get whisked away like you did, okay?
[ Haha. ]
no subject
I don't know if understanding is the word I would use, Medb. But if that happens I can only hope it isn't as terrible.
[he's going to ascend into space upon realizing she's gone.]
no subject
If it happens, I'll come out as beautiful and lovely as ever, don't worry.
[ She flashes a victory sign even if Greed can't really see it. ]
no subject
I've no doubt about that, but nevertheless I think...[...no. no niceness right now.]
My point stands.
no subject
She smiles. ]
Maybe your hope will carry me through the experience.
[ Actually, the fact that he told her so much is legitimately helping her through the CYOA. Very funny. ]
no subject
but at least someone's getting some use out of his traumatic experience.]
Flattering though that may be, we'll have to see what happens next week. If these continue after the fact...then we'll find another solution.
no subject
Yeah, when something doesn't work, trying to fix it the same way over and over to no progress isn't really fixing anything.
[ A beat. ]
Hey, Greed. Can I call you by your name?
no subject

[ She pouts, but it's not that real of a pout. ]
Okay, Edgeworth, when we're alone or when I want to make an impact!
[ She's probably(?) joking about the latter. ]
no subject
[that's. very pathetic. but also that's both good to know and also vaguely terrifying.]
Whenever you'd like then.
no subject
[ She says that brightly and cheerfully. If no one else calls him that, that makes her special. ]
Okay, I think I've bothered you enough. If you don't rest, the next time I visit you, I'll come onto you, okay?
[ She thinks that's an effective threat for someone as prudish as Edgeworth. ]
no subject
Understood. [that's an incredibly effective threat, yes.] Until next time then.
