Do you know how sometimes, someone says a theory and you think, no, that cannot be it, but what if it was, and I disregarded it just because the person who said it is foolish.
[Sorry for making you deny the clones.]
. . . What is their purpose, then? Something specific to your history?
[Listen she. Gets it. She would be this way about it, too. So she can't really do anything but respect the judgment.]
. . . Understood. It was a poor theory. I suppose I gave it more weight than it deserved because of the unexplained appearances of people here during those times some of us disappear. I'm given to understand Sasazuka's appearance in the one last week was especially inexplicable.
I disagree. I can understand to some degree why particular people appeared for Mollymauk, Grace, Gojou and Douman. They seemed connected to them in some way, and their presence was part of a trial of sorts.
But Sasazuka makes me think there's more to it than that.
An anomaly, from the sound of it, although none of them have spoken to me of their time there. I've heard enough from the others to be aware theirs seemed somewhat strange in comparison to others.
[he shrugs, waving one hand.]
I am given to understand some of you feel tested by such incidents. Perhaps a lack of connection could be intentional, then. A presence to react to that does not elicit such a strong response as others.

[of course he's this way about it.]
They do not serve any particular purpose, here.

[God, Despair says things like a dick. But it's exactly the way she'd say them, so. Oh well.]
But that does make sense. Then it wouldn't be the presence so much as the words said that was meaningful.
