They believed there would be repercussions if we came to understand they'd done it. Furthermore, they likely were made aware of the fact that the fewer our numbers, the easier it will be for them to achieve their goal.

Yes, certainly. Seeing as the first person who tried got away with it, it will appear less daunting.

Some people get by on finding the answer by simply bluffing their way through. Surely you can do better than that.

You proved your suitability today. [ergo, they have no reason to be vague or even just tell her to leave them alone. but, like, she's also not the first person to say such things and it's why they pause before they shrug in reply.]

So I've heard. Our names vary in terms of suitability and meaning, and I suppose it's fair to say our aspects manifest in different ways. With murder as an option, it's only fair to take back the opportunity to discover the truth and have the final say in what happens next.

I'm sure some of the others will tell you that I hardly condone murder myself. I believe there are ways you can take precisely what you want, use every trick available to you and still win without resorting to that. It just takes intelligence.
