Baobei. [ confirming. and snickering a little as he's pinched. ] Ah... 'baby', or 'love', I suppose? Both, but the terminology rolls off the tongue a bit easier.
[ since it's home! great liangese, and all that.
anyhoo. ] Mm, it's nothing bad. Rather, just related to this place as a whole, and the events of today. I have something of a theory, but I'm still trying to put the pieces together. It was why I messaged Despair, as well, I thought he might have an interesting take on it.
[says despair, who has just fucking materialized in a swirl of shadowy energy. he's not sitting with them, though, just appearing nearby and taking a seat elsewhere; as he reaches up to remove his hood, the sleeve of his robe slips down, revealing the black crystal making up his claws has spread up to cover his forearm.]
Well, then by all means, do not let me interrupt-- continue with what you meant to say.
[ he also jumps a little when despair just casually appears, and then winks, playful - ] No kiss this time?
[ TERRIBLE
anyway. ] The easiest question is whether what saved Childe today is an item or a boon. I think it's the former, but I did want to check.
What I wanted to ask was about was a little more complex than that, though. Our job is to generate indulgence to get our desires, yes? But this entire ship itself is just that - a ship, something moving. Us indulging -- I imagine it's something comparable to ziliujin. A fuel of some kind, beyond just "indulge until you get what you want".
Larger indulgences, such as killing someone, get us more rewards - and I imagine, produce more gains in terms of energy as well. That's why I was able to get my medicine. However, by killing someone, I'm also eliminating the amount of resource that could possibly be gained by Mahito in the same amount of time.
Unless, of course, wherever the dead go off to isn't that much of an afterlife, and that they're still generating some sort of resource themselves - perhaps one that's lessened. Am I on the right track?
[he just rolls his eyes at her-- stop, they've discussed this.]
We're hardly going to just tell you what occurred, for one-- and the situation is perhaps not quite as you view it. You see eliminating Mahito as eliminating the resources he could provide, when I believe it is best viewed as... by eliminating him, you eliminate his need to consume any gathered resources in the end, as he is dead and no longer here to gain his own desires. The more of you that are left to compete, the less there is to go around when this comes to a close, but consumption need only be worried over at the end, rather than fretting about maintaining it now.
[i'll be honest her eyes glaze over at all of that]
You have a lot of privileges, babe, but Despair's right, we can't just go around telling you specifics like that first part. [a pause, and she shifts, almost uncomfortably.
I didn't think so, but it was worth a shot. [ lol ] It's alright. I had a theory tied to it when I first spoke with you all, but it's since been disproven - and I've already sort of an idea of what happened. As Sloth said, I'm not special.
[ but that's okay. as lup shifts, gu yun hooks his arm around her a little tighter, giving her a squeeze as he continues to be a nerd, expression going thoughtful while he weighs over despair's words. its okay just make him stop talking with smooches or something he'll shut up eventually ]
I see, I see. [ and he actually does see this time, incredible. ] That makes sense. I keep coming back to that life support room - the difference between the bodies of those of us who are alive, and those who are dead, and that same concept of 'consuming'. [ a little wryly: ] I'm no stranger to competition for energy.
What I am a stranger to is the dead still having the ability to commune with others - even though they're gone from here, they're apparently not completely gone, so aren't they still consuming energy? I'm not particularly worried about being haunted, all of a sudden, or anything [ considering mahito??? he has a feeling mahito is probably vibing in the gy right now over that? they fistbumped they're cool (?) ] but it does rend me quite curious.
Also... you said when this comes to a close. If I recall correctly, the last time I asked about a timeframe, someone just said "when there's enough". We're starting to get near the point now where we've got more people dead than alive, so we must be getting close to it, right? We've all been a bit stab happy.
Do you believe energy is necessarily being consumed? As I said, that is something to be concerned with at a later point in time, which we still do not have specifics on, no.
[he taps his fingers on his forearm, with the light clink of crystal on crystal.]
There are some number of you removed from this, so we shall have to see. I suppose you cannot go on past a certain point, else you would have few to indulge with.
[ though there seems to be a long moment where he processes, lup’s comment and her wandering hands get him to chuckle a little. gu yun turns his head, eyes staying on despair for the moment, letting lup do as she likes. ]
Can’t help it. Sort of part of the job description, thinking. [ he just likes to use his brain. nerd. ] Did you have something else in mind?
Not to distract you from very important plot, mind you. [don't just break the fourth wall] But it's not very often that I get to have the two of you in the same room with me. Just saying!
[ there's like a perfectly matching wehehehe energy coming off of gu yun even if it's not emotion share week. he tilts his head into her touches like a cat, turning his face towards lup entirely. ] That sort of business talk the thing that gets you going, darling, is it? I see, I see.
She does seem to like the eloquent type. [ that comes with a playful wink in despair's direction. ]
I assure you, her tolerance for eloquence at moments like this is low, unless you are waxing poetic about her. Perhaps things you would like to do to her.
[business talk is how you get interrupted to keep your mouth occupied, he knows this.
he's just observing for now, though, remaining where he is.]
Well. I don't take orders well, usually... unless they are particularly convincing.
[ to say the least.
making a lazy, pleased noise, he hooks his arm around lup's waist to tug her in closer, making eye contact over her shoulder. ] ...But I think we've already discussed, that Despair and I's goals are in line, and I happen to be quite the fan of eloquence. I'm not opposed.
