they don't say thank you because they're both rude and also never quite sure what to do with basic acts of kindness, so mineo gets a not of acknowledgement.]

[a beat. and he shakes his head.]

... I'm - mostly joking. I just wish I had something useful like Takeru that could actually do some good.

I know we still didn't get it - but I wanted to say thanks for that. The nudge. It felt a little like my old job. Made me miss it a little, even.

[ah. they take a sip of tea and don't reply immediately.]

Even with that sort of ability, it requires knowing what, exactly, you're trying to prove.

The same mistakes were repeated as last week. That's where you failed.

[easy for them to say, but...] As much as it may seem, I truly do not find enjoyment in watching you be unsuccessful each week.

[but they also don't quite know what to say to that so they take a sip of their tea so they don't have to answer. wow.]

.... no, I don't think that's the case.

So what was it this week? Strip check again? Not correctly connecting injuries to crimes? I figure that we should've taken a second look once we got some of those names but...

There were several factors this week that led to these results. Where do you suppose you went wrong knowing what you know about the victims' deaths and the evidence found?

[ . . . . he taps his fingers on the countertop]

.... suspects. We keep tripping it up at suspects. Like we can get everything together but no one actually puts names forward... this time we only got to names because of certain checks.

But I think this week, we also got tripped up on deciphering a timeline. We thought that we knew which murders were related to which location before we looked at all the evidence - mostly because we didn't have it.

[there's a nod.]

With multiple murders and multiple locations and not enough hours, there truly isn't enough time for you to fully analyze everything that you find. This is when it's most important to decide what evidence is important and what isn't.

[...they take another sip of their tea.] Sometimes, food is simply food.

... can I get a hint about the toblerones that showed up in the jail cell overnight at least?

Consider why it may have appeared, and importantly, when it appeared.

Right when curfew hit, which is about the time that we keep getting all our hints, right? The prayer was supposed to be us checking the chapel, I get that now. The air getting kinda suffocating... might also be about Starphase-san getting choked to death.

But if they're all related -

Does that mean that the toblerone is because whoever attacked Kaan-san also attacked him?

You know I can't tell you answers even after court has adjourned. [but they seem to consider this.]

Though I suppose your line of thinking isn't nearly as off-base as it could be.

[sengokus]

You can't tell me answers even during court, Greed-san....

[ . . . . but he nods.]

Okay. I mean... Takeru and I will work with it. I just... don't like seeing all these people dying.

[and then, a pause - ]

.... Sloth-san said something briefly to me, and I think it was about their home but... The idea of - 'undying'. That's what I'm trying to do by being here but... the people who die while they're here.

Do they get... what, a third chance somehow? Is there any way to bring them back? Through wishes maybe...?

[well. fair point. there's another considerable pause though.]

Have you asked Sloth about this?

[he shakes his head]

No, not about things here. Is that where I should start?

[a beat]

Can you just tell me whether or not I should give up on it?

[probe]

I could tell you what to think or what you should do, but I feel as though it'd be ineffective. You really are the only one who can make that decision regardless of what I say.

[sengokus]

Hmm... That's true. I am pretty stubborn. Okay. [he'll give that one up] Then I'll tell you that if there's a way, I want to help everyone we've lost so far - uh. 'Un-die', I guess.

Are you saying it might be difficult?

[probe]

I'm saying that perhaps it would be best to focus on what's happening here and not on the people who have died.

[which sounds a little callous, yes, but their claws click against their mug a bit like they're anxious.]

...spending too much time focusing on the dead will only set you back further.

[sengokus]

[ . . . . . he tilts his head.]

I want to do both.

[he did say he was stubborn - but almost as a compromise, he'll follow greed's line of conversation.]

By 'what's happening here'.... Do you mean the murders? Or... [he looks away before looking back] The visions that we've been getting when we investigate. The eye that Vira-san and Grace-san found.

Are those parts of a bigger puzzle we're supposed to solve?

The murders, mostly. You've yet to find the motive of why these cases are happening, have you?

[though hm. yes. there sure is all of that that's happening.]

Miss Monroe spoke to me about the eye, but what visions have you experienced?

[sengokus]

[ . . . he looks thoughtful.]

So there's a motive? For sure? It's not just indulgences? Because Takeru said that when he talked to an Avatar, he was told that the robot just felt like killing and got the go-ahead.

[but there is so much going on greed wow]

Mm... White-kun and I separately went to check out the jail on different days. It's why I got tripped up at trial. When I went to the jail, I saw a vision of being chained up inside a church. I was beaten pretty badly afterward, and had this sense of... well, hopelessness. [which is. hard. even now he seems to have difficulty shaking it]

So I thought that maybe the things that happened during curfew could be tied to location - because of the hand that showed up last week in the med bay. I thought that was just done to make the people in the group panic. Like a cruel trick.

But now I think it seems like every part could really be related to the murders.

[probe]

That's not what I said. I asked if you've found a motive at all.

[then again sometimes your motive really just is that you're a trigger-happy robot and wish to kill.]

But that isn't a terrible theory.

[mineo can take that as he wants to, if only because greed seems distracted about that vision.]

Should this occur again next week, I'd like to see you apply that thought to the case. See if that provides you with a list of places and suspects any sooner.
