As you know, Fukuda likes Aoi a lot. He didn't take her whole thing seriously at first, but then when he fairly quickly decided to just surface level accept it he ended up buying in basically anyway because why not this be true? Either way, from the start he felt like he could sort of relate to her? Fukuda's whole character conflict is feeling incorrect, incomplete, and unable to properly connect and relate to other people, so Aoi... really reflected that for him? So he was drawn to her in that sort of "same hat" sort of way.
Similarly, she struck him as like, very vulnerable, and he Wants to Help as a way to get closer to people, so he felt this urge to do what he could to help her, and that eventually ended up becoming Wants To Protect urges more than anything else. He felt like she was becoming more human as the weeks went on and that made him happy not only because he did want that her her but also while he mostly thought "Aoi is young, she still has a chance at a normal life," a small part of him thought that maybe if Aoi can change he can too? Basically.
