[ She faces the item of the hour: the elevator, tapping at the buttons to see if it will open. Presumably the flames have extinguished due to lack of oxygen inside. ]

Have ya used elevators before?

[ Peering at the elevator and tapping at the walls to see if anything will come loose. ]

[ She looks over at them, surprised. ]

Does that mean... We might get stuck here helpin' people instead of goin' back home once we're done?

I would say that is something of an over-simplification. They must indulge in despair, but they need not be sad at all times, no.

MY FRIEND SAID THAT SHE HAS to be sad all the time because she has the DESPAIR TATTOO. I TOLD HER THAT DIDN'T SEEM FAIR IF EVeryone else is having a good time!!

But you're saying I'm right, ain't I?

[they wave both of their hands back and forth in front of themselves dismissively.]

If that is how she is choosing to indulge in it, then she may. I am not saying she should not, necessarily-- only that it would not be mandatory for all who bear my mark.

[ She wipes her brow in relief before looking around the elevator again. There's a hatch at the top, but she can't reach... ]

Can ya get up there? Yer flyin' right?

That is certainly an option, yes.
