Generally. We found him abandoned by his previous owner. I was the only one with the means to take care of him, so I did. I've thought of getting another dog, but time constraints haven't allowed it lately.

Among other reasons, yes. But I suppose whenever we do leave, if ever, I've no choice but to bring Maus with me.

Whenever you don't want to take a case now, you could just go "sorry, my dog needs me". Totally understandable. [ she pets maus, but that joke aside... ] "If ever"? Does this have to do with how you guys came to wind up here?

I could. I very much doubt that would suffice, but it could be worth a try.

[maus is busy getting pets from both grace and greed now.]

...somewhat. I'm sure you've heard by now that we're here to ensure you're indulging enough. We're here for as long as that takes. However long that is remains unknown and up to you.

In theory. [ HMMMM. ] How do you guys know all this stuff anyway? Like... did someone tell you, or did you show up here and get the knowledge?

Do I really strike you as the type to wait for someone to tell me things I want to know?

I continued searching places that I'm sure we weren't meant to go. [illegal investigations....2] Ask enough questions, you eventually find a direction.

[alteracion]

At least you can't get arrested for it this time. Probably.

Is it like a paper thing, then? I didn't even know lawyers had badges.

Metal, actually. Like a pin that you can wear, though I prefer to keep mine in my pocket.

So is it just... proof you're a lawyer? Since you're not supposed to show it off?

Defense attorneys have a tendency to wear theirs. Most prosecutors have been trained to keep it in their pockets as to not draw immediate attention to themselves. It wouldn't be very wise to be an open target for the people we're attempting to convict.

[alteracion]

Yeah, I guess that'd make you a target for criminals. [ pensive. ] But wouldn't defense attorneys be targeted for... I dunno, other stuff?

[ vague. but. law stuff hard ]

Possibly, but most of the defense attorneys I've met have been ridiculous enough that they don't think of it that way. Besides, the job of the defense is to prove the innocence of their client. I'm sure most culprits would want to be on their good side.

[alteracion]

Probably, if they're working for them. [ grace tilts her head in thought ] I never thought much about this stuff before. I've only ever read about it in books, and there's no way that's accurate. Well, there's probably a court car on the train, but I dunno how accurate that would be.

Given what I've researched about your train, I highly doubt it's reflective of a real court. Though that would depend on the books you've read as well. [there's a pause.] My father was a defense attorney. I had started to learn from a young age.
