so you just try to keep your head down, move along, remind yourself of things. nobody else is reacting to the car on fire in the street, so it's just a remnant of a death. nobody is avoiding the small puddle of blood on the sidewalk, don't go around it. their feet don't trail red when they step in it, but yours do. they just don't see it-- completely unaware of these signs of death everywhere.
someone raises a hand slightly in a little wave to you as they pass. you return the gesture and get a strange look from another person nearby, then watch as the first one walks directly through a wall. right. that one was dead-- it's hard for you to tell. they looked every bit like a living person, up til that point.
you try your best to ignore the stare and start walking again, eyes fixed on the ground, hoping as the stranger mutters something that they're talking about literally anything else besides you.]
[...it ends, and envy looks a little dazed. when he glances up to luca, he looks unsure, free hand coming up to rub at the back of his neck, but he really doesn't know what to say.]
[Luca doesn't really know what to say either. He wouldn't have understood just how uncomfortable seeing ghosts is if he hadn't experienced that little moment. Both seeing what Envy saw and feeling what he felt, it makes it more real.
Luca's looking at Envy with sympathy clear on his face. He reaches across the table to take one of Envy's hands, just to hold it for a moment.]
I'm- please forgive me, I'm not exactly the best at this, but- that looks difficult to live with. I'm sorry.
Well. I can't promise you a new life or anything, but I can say I will hang out with you? And I'm sure there are others who will do so as well. So it will be a little less isolating here, at least.
[He pauses, considering something, and then he chuckles.]
It's not going to be normal, nothing here is normal. But it's friendship?
[I feel so bad, Luca is here offering to be Envy's friend and he's about to heckin die.]

[envy gives him a grateful little smile, there, and just. tugs at his hand, silently asking him to come closer. also it's fine a lot of envy's friends are dead people.]
I- definitely like your company, though, so if you're okay with hanging out, and-- maybe doing more than that? If you want? Then I'm absolutely not going to tell you no.
[Smiling, Luca does move closer. He ends up sitting on the edge of the table, still holding onto Envy's hand. He's rubbing his thumb over Envy's knuckles too.]
I think I would like that, yes. Let's be weird together.
[his smile's a little softer, and after a few moments of hesitation to work up the nerve, he finally lifts luca's hand up to press a little kiss to the back of it. it feels a little like he shouldn't be nervous to do this, considering what they've done already but-- well. it's a little different.
