[he's not looking at omi, his voice slightly distant, posture hunched in on himself.]
I got away from there, and I managed to find Pride, but- I can't remember what happened, exactly? It's-- it's kind of fuzzy, but I remember they were going to get killed, and I didn't... I figured I'd just come back, you know? So I... got between them and whatever was trying to kill them.
But the next thing I knew, I woke up outside and they were still dead, so, um. So much for that.
[Omi is watching him. This is awful. Hearing it is awful, but experiencing it first hand had to be so much worse. He asked for the story, he is going to listen to the whole thing.
But it's terrifying to think this man had to experience all of that, all on his own. Then he tried to help Pride and failed.
Omi does not manage to hide the worry in his voice, the wobble of wishing there was something he could do.]
You still- you tried. [Some people don't even get to do that much. He gets it, maybe, the urge to try and protect what's important.]
You're all- you're all okay now? [It really sounds more like "Are you really okay?" despite the way he's tried to phrase it.]
We're fine, we're fine-! We're alive, anyway-- that place was, um. Just fucking with us more than anything, I think. We were trying to figure out what was up with some of you disappearing, but we ended up just getting, um, trauma.

[Those are the only three he's aware are gone.]
I'm glad you're alive. I wish you didn't need to go through all of that.
